Setting up the software is simpler now that the latest version requires you sign in with your email account you used to download the software from www.axis.com website in the first place. It remembers your sites you created.
I setup a HP ML350 G5 with server 2008R2. I downloaded the software and logged into with my email address. It instantly brought up the sites I created before the server died last time.
FIRST ISSUE: When viewing the cameras it "says missing media components"
IGNORE ALL POSTS IF YOU INSTALLED ON A SERVER DO THE FOLLOWING.
Media Components Missing
The error message Media Components Missing may appear if AXIS Camera Companion is installed on a server. To
solve this, install Desktop Experience:
1. In Windows, click the Start button and select Administrative Tools > Server Manager
2. Select Features > Add features
3. Follow the instructions to install Desktop Experience.
Thats it, I spent the better part of a hour to find this buried in the axis manual rather than on google
